Dave Melissas ~ Assistant Coach, Distance, is in his 5th year as a cross country team coach and the distance coach for the track team at Alpharetta High School. Previously, he coached for 4 years at Lassiter High School. There, he assisted in coaching the high school athletes, as well as founded the Lassiter Junior Cross Country and Track teams. Prior to that, he spent 3 years as the lead cross country and the distance coach for the Walton Youth Track Club. He is a former NCAA Division 1 scholarship athlete at Rider University, where he was cross country team captain and the 1st 12-time varsity letter recipient in the school's history. Dave ran professionally for and was sponsored by Reebok for 7 years. His 5K personal record is 14:52 (4:48 per mile average pace). Dave runs every day. His 30+ year streak began on July 20, 1983. The United States Running Streak Association currently ranks him as #56 in the world for the longest consecutive running streak. He works at UPS. He and his wife Lori have two sons; one son ran track and XC at Emory and the other son attends NYU.
Gil Radford ~ Head Coach, Throwers, is starting his 6th year as Throws Coach at Alpharetta High School. Since the start of his coaching career, he has coached several state qualifiers and medalists in both shot put and discus. Several of his former athletes have received athletic scholarships and continued to throw at the collegiate level. Gil gained his experience “hands-on” as a thrower in high school in New Jersey and then afterwards at Missouri Valley College. In high school, he was a state medalist in shot put. Gil and his wife live in Alpharetta and have 3 children, of which two are former graduates of AHS. His daughter Breanna was a High School All American in shot put, currently holds the AHS record in both shot put and discus, and attended the University of South Carolina on a track scholarship where she graduated in 2014. His son Dylan was a regional scorer in shot put and discus and a two time state qualifier in wrestling.
